About Franklins Farm
Franklins farm shop was opened at Trumpetons Farm, Thorncote Green in October 2003. It was born from the ever increasing requests from local people who were concerned about where their food comes from and the conditions the live animals are kept in. Many consumers are today increasingly discerning and many wish to buy direct from the producer to maximise quality and flavour.
Franklins of Thorncote started out life as a free range egg producer in 1987, supplying local shops and restaurants and doing a village egg round to supply many residents of Ickwell, Northill, Hatch and Thorncote Green with their weekly eggs.
The demand and production of Christmas Turkeys and Geese was also ever increasing year on year, and the business has adapted to meet the demand.
In 2001 the farmers markets started appearing around the County, Franklins started out at Leighton Buzzard and Ampthill and these were quickly joined by Bedford and St Neots, then also Letchworth, Huntingdon, Woburn, Olney and Biggleswade were added to the calendar.
As well as the Easter market and Christmas, there was a growing demand for fresh free range chickens and ducks all year round. Due to the increasing popularity of the local farmers markets it was decided to also open the shop as a regular weekly base for people to come direct to the source for their meat and eggs, so they can see for themselves how Franklins’poultry are reared.
Franklins Farm Shop now sells free range chickens, ducks, rabbit, Gloucester Old Spot pork, Oakley lamb, and free range guinea fowl. From Michaelmas to Christmas, free range Geese, Bronze Turkeys and White Turkeys are available. Locally shot venison, pheasant, partridge and Hare are available in season.
Visiting a farmers market or Farm Shop is also an enjoyable day out, and most customers are looking for a unique experience that they do not receive from other outlets. We provide a welcoming atmosphere and a personal service.
